What's A Democrat?

Greetings. This week we ask a hard question: “What’s a Democrat?” Hope you can read Friday Letter #113 even if you are one.

What’s a Democrat?

Dad was a Democrat. So was Grampa.

So too was I, up to a certain point in history.

Dad was a Democrat because the Dems supported the labor unions, and the labor unions supported Dad during the short time he was a coal miner.

He and Grampa believed the Dems were in favor of the good life for the common man – the farmer, the merchant, the auto factory worker. They were absolutely right, for their time.

Many years ago, I had the pleasure of spending an afternoon in the Harry S Truman Museum in Independence, Missouri. What I found there was the record of the ultimate Democrat, a common man who rose to defend the common man.

I found there physical evidence of a life lived for service. Truman’s political accomplishments were in defense of the nation, the Constitution, the every day U.S. Citizen.

Mr. Truman was the last of the breed. There won’t be another.

I was one ecstatic 21-year-old when John Kennedy was elected President. Unbeknownst to me at the time, his election signaled the horrific turning point for the Democratic Party.

JFK compromised aggressively, setting aside his good Catholic moral teaching to serve political advantage, caving in on important points of moral law, believing like today’s socialists that the end justifies the means.

The morass of abortion began, thus, with him, our first and only President to come from a Roman Catholic background.

Sadly, the contemporary quagmire of socialist economics also began with him.

This has to do with Democratic Party pressure on banking to make bad loans based on perceived needs for minorities. This is a prime example of socialist interference in capitalism.

This leftist drive has been consistent with all Democratic presidents from Kennedy forward. It still doesn’t work. Over the long haul, none of the other radical programs peculiar to the Democratic Party since Kennedy are functional either.

As Prime Minister Margaret Thatcher of Britain once said, “The only trouble with socialism is that sooner or later you run out of somebody else’s money.”

Who’s a Democrat today?

– A Democrat is a person who believes your granddaughter should have an abortion if she possibly can. Yes they really believe that, even though some of them have grandchildren of their own.

– A Democrat is a person who believes that a bureaucrat is better than a doctor when it comes to serving individual health care needs.

– A Democrat is a person who believes that the length of a person’s life should be decided by the partisan bureaucracy, not by God.

– A Democrat is a person who believes that our country’s heavy industry will be more successful when it is administered by federal bureaucrats, not any stuffy old Board of Directors – those capitalist pigs.

– A Democrat is a person who has no clue when it comes to the diminishing returns of financial bailouts. Whose cash was it that paid for all those clunkers? Democrats’ cash?

– A Democrat is a person who believes that homosexual behavior is not only permissible but admirable. Yes Democrats really down deep believe that we should all aspire to become homosexuals. Has to do with birth control. (See below.)

– A Democrat is a person who believes that “birth control” is preferable to “self control.”

– A Democrat is a person who actually believes a child can be properly nurtured by two “gay parents” or two “lesbian mothers.” A child. An innocent. This is Love?

– A Democrat is a person who believes election or re-election is more important than mere moral nuance. Sure. Bring on the fags and the dykes, the commies and union thugs. They vote!

Predictions

Look for ideas like this in the near future:

– A rebate ($800 is suggested) will accompany your income tax refund if you can prove you’ve had at least one abortion in the previous year. Likewise tubal ligations or vasectomies.

– Yes, a voluntary sterilization will bring you a healthy rebate too. Uh, maybe just a one-time rebate, though. Nice. Eugenics through the temptation of rebates.

– Watch for the broadening of “law” with regard to abortion. These days, it’s basically O.K. to murder a baby so long as it’s done before the little guy is born. Or at least before he’s completely born.

But the time is near when the “law” will approve of the post-natal execution of certain little ones. The rationalization will be that their survival would be too costly. It’ll start with Down Syndrome, then extend to muscular dystrophy, cystic fibrosis etc.

You’ll hear a lot about “the greater good.” And “the quality of life.”

– Or, how about this one: A rebate for families who can prove an elderly loved one was assisted in suicide.

– How about a rebate to families whose elderly agree to die by, oh, say, 65, instead of living to 80 or 90?

So our answer to today’s question must necessarily be, “A Democrat is a person who supports the Culture of Death and the nationalization of industry in every conceivable way.”

Not a good idea

Are you incensed by all this? Does it make you want to get out the magic markers and the poster board and go down to a Town Hall Meeting waving a sign?

Don’t do it.

It’s pretty obvious the Obamacrats want the opposition to show itself in public. Photos are being taken, names added to lists. Make no mistake, this is going on. Today. Tonight.

Do you imagine you’ll change the President’s mind about abortion by attending a protest? Waving a placard? Chanting a slogan? Hardly. You’ll just show your playing cards and endanger your future.

You think the Nazi team didn’t have a list? Of course they did. Catholic priests died because they spoke out. So did thousands of Jewish leaders.

The late great avant garde comedian Lenny Bruce was fond of saying: “No matter how paranoid you think you are, the bastards ARE out to get you.”

It’s probably time to lie low.

Word of the week: Katabasis. It’s from Greek, katabainien, to go down. It’s a retreat comparable to that made by Greek mercenaries who followed Cyrus against Artaxerxes as described by Xenophon in the Anabasis. Thus, a katabasis is any similar military retreat.

Next week’s word: Anamnesis.
